Whether you’re traveling locally or planning a long road trip, gas prices can quickly add up. The good news is your AARP membership can help you save. In addition to many other automotive discounts and perks, AARP members can access gas discounts. We’ve highlighted the must-know details of some of the best AARP automotive perks that can save you money and help you stay safer on the road.

AARP offers gas and other auto discounts for members.

Does AARP Offer Discounts on Gas?

AARP members can earn money back on their gas purchases with the Extra Exxon Mobil Rewards+ program. This program is available to the general public, but when you link your Exxon account with your AARP membership, you can earn extra points.

If you’re new to the Exxon Mobil Rewards+ program and are an AARP member, you’ll get a 500-point welcome bonus after your first fill-up. Then, you’ll continue to earn points on purchases like fuel, car washes, and convenience store items. On member days, you’ll earn twice the points on fuel purchases.

Every 100 points that you earn equals $1 in savings that you can redeem on purchases like fuel, car washes, and store purchases.

Other AARP Auto Discounts

In addition to saving money on gas, AARP senior discounts can help you to save on many other auto-related expenses.

AARP Auto Insurance Program from The Hartford

AARP members can save an average of $577 per year on their car insurance costs.

FYI: Seniors often pay more for car insurance than younger drivers because of senior driving statistics and potential risks for accidents. Learn more about senior driving statistics and how to stay safe on the road.

AARP Motorcycle Insurance Program from Foremost

Foremost offers discounts on motorcycle insurance, safety apparel, and towing and roadside assistance. Most customers also receive a free DNA+ Forensic Coding system to help prevent motorcycle theft.

AARP SmartDriver Course

AARP members can take the Smart Driver course online or in a classroom at a discounted rate. The course can help you brush up on your driving skills, and it might help you to save money on your car insurance, too.

From the Pros: Not sure that driving is the right option? There are many personal transportation options for seniors that can help.

Allstate Roadside

The Allstate Roadside assistance program is available to AARP members for as little as $5.50 per month. You can save up to 20 percent on your annual membership fees and can get access to help with towing, tire changes, lockout assistance, fuel delivery, and more.

Collective Vehicle Insurance from The Hartford

AARP members can get a free quote by phone. The Hartford’s classic car insurance is designed specifically for your collectible car.

Recreational Vehicle Insurance from The Hartford

The Hartford also offers recreational vehicle insurance for RVs, motorhomes, and trailers. You can get a free insurance quote by phone.

Valvoline Instant Oil Change

Your AARP membership can help you save money on maintaining your car, too. Members can save 15 percent on Valvoline drive-thru, stay-in-your-car oil changes. The oil changes also include a free 18-point maintenance check. Additionally, the 15 percent discount applies to preventative maintenance service like air filter and wiper blade replacements. Oil changes are crucial to maximize your engine’s lifespan. Even if you drive infrequently and don’t reach the recommended oil change mileage interval, it’s still recommended to change your oil every six months.1
