Xfinity Internet Plans for Seniors: Our Review
Xfinity is one of our favorite internet providers for seniors, thanks to their fast speeds, widespread availability, and bundling options.

How We Tested Xfinity Internet
Our tech team spent nearly 100 hours researching and testing internet plans for seniors. Accounting for our personal experience, plus industry research and customer reviews, we evaluated each internet provider’s costs, speeds, customer service, and reliability.
Here’s additional information about the criteria we used in our evaluation:
- Pricing: We prioritize affordability when evaluating each internet provider we review. That includes researching whether companies offer discounts for veterans, seniors, or low-income households. We also note companies’ extra fees, including taxes and equipment fees.
- Contracts: Some companies require a service contract, sometimes for one or two years, to get the best deal. We carefully evaluate related costs and terms of long-term contracts to help you decide whether one may be worth it.
- Coverage: We strive to give you an accurate picture of a company’s network service nationwide and how to find their coverage in your area.
- Plan variety and flexibility: We like to see multiple options in service plans that fit the needs and budgets of most older adults.
- Reliability: No one wants to pay for slow or spotty internet service, so we rigorously test how reliable a provider’s service is to help you pick the best internet service plan.
- Customer service: Everyone needs customer service and tech support that is accessible, helpful, and courteous, but it’s critical for older adults who are less experienced with technology. We noted how easy or difficult it is to reach a company’s customer service representatives and how helpful agents were when we spoke to them on the phone, via email, or in an online chat.
- Industry rankings: We review market reports and business performance rankings to determine how each company we cover compares to the competition.

More affordable options include NOW Internet at $30 per month for 100 Mbps and Internet Essentials at $14.95 per month for eligible low-income households.1
As a former Xfinity customer and SeniorLiving.org’s resident tech expert, I can attest to the provider’s reputation. I was pleased with my service for several years. I only switched providers because I moved to a neighborhood where Xfinity doesn’t offer service. My parents and partner are still Xfinity customers, so we are an Xfinity family through and through!
For this review, I tested Xfinity based on price, ease of setup, speeds and availability. In this guide, I’ll go through my family’s experiences with Xfinity’s internet plans for older adults and help you decide if Xfinity Internet is the right choice for you or a loved one.

- Unlimited data: Current Xfinity Internet plans include unlimited data and WiFi equipment. Some existing customers may still have different terms on older plans.

Cons About Xfinity Internet

Xfinity’s fast speeds, variety of plans and contract-free options make it one of our go-to internet providers.

Which Xfinity Internet Plan Is Best for Seniors?
Below, I’ll explain the details of my favorite Xfinity Internet and bundled plans for seniors.
Xfinity Internet Essentials: Best for Low-Income Households
Xfinity doesn’t offer age-based senior discounts, but they do offer an Internet Essentials plan designed for low-income customers. The Internet Essentials plan includes unlimited data and enough speed to handle emails, web browsing, and even streaming — all for $14.95 per month.
» Find a Deal: Cheap Internet for Seniors
With federal funding for the Affordable Connectivity Program1 now exhausted, the ACP discount is no longer being applied to monthly bills; however, households that meet program criteria can still enroll in Internet Essentials directly through Xfinity.
You may qualify through participation in a program such as Medicaid, SNAP, or housing assistance, or based on your household income. Other eligibility requirements apply: Your household generally cannot have had Xfinity Internet within the past 90 days or have outstanding Comcast debt less than one year old.
The Internet Essentials plan includes:
- Download speeds up to 75 Mbps (good for email, social media, telehealth, and web browsing)
- No activation or equipment rental fees
- Option to purchase a low-cost laptop starting at $149.99 plus tax
- Free internet skills training online or in print
- Unlimited data usage
- Professional installation costs extra
- No long-term contract
- No credit check required
- Unlimited access to Xfinity hotspots
Although the Xfinity Internet Essentials plan is a solid option for many seniors, especially those who don’t need to keep multiple devices or people connected concurrently, it’s not limited to older adults.
Access from AT&T is another option for eligible low-income households, but its pricing and speeds depend on your address. Compare the actual offers available at your home before choosing. Internet Essentials may be especially useful if you also need an affordable computer and help learning basic internet skills.
Xfinity Internet Essentials Plus: Best for Light Internet Users or Those on a Tight Budget
Internet Essentials Plus costs $29.95 per month for eligible households and offers download speeds up to 100 Mbps. It includes unlimited data and WiFi equipment, with no activation fee or credit check. Professional installation costs extra. The added speed may be useful if you and a family member often use the internet at the same time.
» Helpful Resource: Internet for Seniors With Low or Fixed Incomes
If you qualify, compare both Internet Essentials options before paying for more speed than you need. If you don't qualify, NOW Internet offers 100 Mbps for $30 per month without income-based eligibility requirements. Check availability and the setup requirements before choosing.
NOW (by Xfinity) Internet 100 Mbps: Best for Moderate Internet Users on a Budget
If available in your area, Xfinity’s NOW Internet 100 costs $30 per month. It’s a straightforward, plan (equipment and unlimited data included) that works well for up to four devices at a time — with no contract and no credit check. The plan offers up to 100 Mbps download speeds, which should be sufficient for most tasks but may slow down with heavy use. Overall, it's a decently priced basic internet plan.
Money-Saving Tip: Start with a lower-speed plan and upgrade if it doesn't meet your needs. Current standard Xfinity Internet plans include WiFi equipment and don't require an annual contract.
Xfinity Internet 300 Mbps: Best for Heavy Internet Users
For households using the internet daily for streaming, video calls, and several devices, 300 Mbps can be a practical choice. Xfinity currently offers this plan at $45 per month for five years for new customers, with AutoPay from a stored bank account and paperless billing. Taxes and fees are extra.
The plan is ideal for older adults who use the internet regularly for various activities, including streaming TV from services like Netflix or Hulu, or using multiple devices simultaneously. It has up to 300 Mbps download speeds. Xfinity Mobile deals can reduce your total bill if you bundle mobile service with eligible internet plans; check current offers when you call or shop online.
My partner has this plan, and it has more than enough speed for Zoom calls, watching YouTube videos, and many data-heavy activities. I often binge-watch Netflix while my partner plays online games, and we’ve never had any issues with lagging.
You should have no problem performing most tasks on this plan. It’s great for video chatting with the grandchildren, catching up on your favorite shows, or online shopping.
One of my favorite things about Xfinity is how easy it is to set up your package. My partner and I called to order his plan. Once we signed up, we made a same-day appointment at a local Xfinity store. There was no wait, and our equipment was ready to be picked up when we arrived.
Previously, I’ve experienced long wait times at internet provider retail stores, even with an appointment, so I appreciate this. Once we returned to his house, we downloaded the Xfinity app and followed the setup instructions. Everything was up and running in about 10 minutes. It’s a piece of cake!
Xfinity 1 Gig Internet
Xfinity's 1 Gig plan offers download speeds up to 1,000 Mbps. Its featured new-customer offer is $70 per month for five years with bank-account AutoPay and paperless billing; taxes and fees are extra. WiFi equipment and unlimited data are included.
The current offer also includes Peacock Premium for two years. If you're considering TV or mobile service, compare the complete bundle price with internet alone, and check when each promotional benefit expires. A faster plan is worth the added cost only if your household needs the extra capacity.
If you bundle your internet with Xfinity Now TV, you’ll get access to thousands of free shows and movies, as seen on my Xfinity mobile app.
My parents have Xfinity 1000 Mbps, and I've always been impressed with the speed and reliable connection. I took a speed test and found they were getting download speeds of about 734 Mbps.
Xfinity offers fast and reliable speeds, which you can see from this speed test conducted at my parents house that shows speeds of 367.46 Mbps.
That isn't the top speed the plan advertises, but it's still more than enough speed for connecting to several devices simultaneously. My dad can take Zoom calls, I can work on my laptop, and my mom can stream Netflix without issue!

NOW Internet: Best for Seniors Who Prefer Prepaid Service
NOW Internet costs $30 per month for speeds up to 100 Mbps or $45 per month for speeds up to 200 Mbps. Both plans include unlimited data, WiFi equipment, taxes, and fees, with no annual contract or credit check. Standard Xfinity Internet plans also offer contract-free service; NOW's main appeal is its straightforward prepaid pricing and the ability to pause and resume service.
NOW requires self-installation, online payments, AutoPay, and paperless billing. Payments use a credit, debit, or prepaid card. Consider whether you're comfortable setting up the gateway and managing service online, or whether a family member can help. The Xfinity 30-day money-back guarantee does not apply to NOW Internet.
If you're switching from standard Xfinity Internet, check what happens to your other services first. Customers moving to NOW must remove other Xfinity services, except Xfinity Mobile.
Add-On Services to Get the Best Xfinity Has to Offer
Xfinity offers a full range of products and services to help older adults take full advantage of their internet.
Xfinity Xumo Stream Box
If you’ve used devices like Roku, you’ll probably understand how the Xumo Stream Box from Xfinity (formerly Xfinity Flex) works. It’s another way to stream television to your TV through your internet connection. The Xumo Stream Box device is compatible with notable streaming services, like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
Xumo Stream Box is included at no extra monthly cost with select Xfinity internet packages. When my partner purchased his plan, it included the streaming device in his equipment package. You can add additional Xumo Stream Box devices for $5 a month each. A one-time $15 activation fee plus tax may apply on certain plans, so check your order summary before adding a box.

Before spending money on a third-party streaming device, check if this add-on (including the Xfinity voice remote) is available with your internet package. I tested my parents’ Xfinity voice remote, and I think it’s a fantastic option for older adults with dexterity, mobility, or vision issues. I could just hold the blue button and say what I wanted to do or watch. It’s that easy!

Xfinity CyberSecure
Elder fraud is rampant, meaning older adults are frequent targets of scammers. Customers can get extra peace of mind with Xfinity CyberSecure. It’s included at no extra cost with compatible Xfinity Gateways and works in the background to monitor threats to devices on your home network.2 Once Xfinity CyberSecure is enabled, you can benefit from enhanced security features.
Safety Fact: Adults aged 60 and older reported more than $7.7 billion in losses to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center in 2025.
Xfinity Pro: Expanded WiFi Coverage and Outage Backup
Xfinity Pro costs an additional $15 per month and requires postpaid Xfinity Internet and a compatible gateway. It includes a Pro WiFi Extender that can switch to a 4G LTE connection during a network outage. Up to two additional WiFi extenders are available if recommended for your home.
For power outages, an optional Battery Backup costs $60 upfront and can keep the connection running for up to four hours. Backup speeds are lower than your regular plan, and cellular coverage is required. This add-on may be useful if you have weak WiFi in part of your home or want a backup connection for basic online tasks.
FYI: Xfinity also offers home security services. Before adding one, ask for a quote that separates equipment, installation, and ongoing service charges. Read our guide to the best home security systems for seniors to compare your options.
How to Get the Best Deal With Xfinity
To qualify for the advertised five-year rates, enroll in paperless billing and AutoPay using a stored bank account. Compare the full monthly cost, including taxes, fees, installation, and any TV or mobile services you add. Check when each discount ends—a bundle's promotional benefits may expire before the internet price guarantee does.
Already an Xfinity customer? Sign in to view the plans and offers available to your account, or ask a representative for a written quote. The prices advertised for new customers may differ from yours. Before switching, compare the new offer with your current bill, including equipment charges, data allowances, and any discounts you would lose.
Xfinity Customer Service
My family and I have always had pleasant experiences with Xfinity’s customer service team. I rarely have to wait more than five minutes to connect with a representative, and the people I speak with are always kind, patient, and helpful.
I’ve connected with representatives on the phone, in person, and with the company’s online chat feature and had similar experiences. When my partner purchased his plan, the representative we spoke with helped us score a great deal without us even asking!
I often use Xfinity’s online chat feature to get quick answers to my questions and address issues.

Xfinity's featured standard internet offer is $45 per month for 300 Mbps for five years for new customers, with bank-account AutoPay and paperless billing. Taxes and fees are extra. Existing-customer pricing may differ.
In the American Customer Satisfaction Index's 2026 results for nonfiber internet providers, Xfinity scored 71 out of 100, tying with AT&T Internet and Spectrum.3
Factors determining these rankings include plan variety, frequency of service outages or interruptions, how easy it is to understand your bill, and call center satisfaction. Among nonfiber internet providers, Xfinity scored higher than Optimum, CenturyLink, and Frontier. Xfinity offers several price and speed options, but I recommend comparing the offers available at your address before deciding which provider gives you the best value.
Did You Know? Internet use among people 65 and older has risen significantly over the past decade as broadband access and device adoption have grown.4
If you qualify for a low-income internet program, compare Xfinity Internet Essentials with Cox's current low-cost options. Check eligibility, speeds, and the full monthly price at your address before choosing.
Internet availability can vary from one address to the next, even within the same city. Check which providers can serve your home before comparing their plans, prices, and speeds.
Current Xfinity Internet plans include unlimited data, so you don't need to pay extra to avoid a monthly data cap on those plans. Some existing customers may still have an older plan with a 1.2 TB limit. If that's you, check your account's usage history and compare the total cost of moving to a current plan before making a change.
