When thinking of senior living communities, “luxury” may not immediately come to mind. But Oakmont Senior Living prides itself on its 5-star amenities and industry-renowned reputation. Based in Irvine, California, the high-end retirement and assisted living provider also offers first-class memory care services staffed by extensively trained team members.

Their locations are limited to California, Hawaii, and Nevada, so you’re out of luck if you or your loved one doesn’t live in – or want to move to – these areas. Aside from the low national prevalence, Oakmont’s many wellness services and programs are impressive. As with most senior living facilities, offerings may vary depending on which area you choose. Generally, they include extensively trained care providers, an award-winning culinary program, a movie theater, and pet therapy. Resident reviewers state that Oakmont’s facilities are clean and beautiful, and the staff treat residents like family. The privately held company, founded by Sonoma County developer Bill Gallaher in 1997, offers retirement living, assisted living, and memory care. These offerings are similar to other senior living companies, such as Brookdale Senior Living. As previously mentioned, while the type of care and services vary depending on each location or “community,” each facility is designed to provide residents with the highest quality of service. Oakmont’s goal is to allow residents to continue living there even as their needs change.

Retirement living residents can enjoy their post-working years by utilizing the facility’s upscale amenities. These include chauffeur-driven transportation, fine dining accommodations, and health and fitness activities, among others. At Oakmont’s premier assisted living communities, you’ll enjoy a host of services, including a wellness center, assistance with personal care (i.e., bathing/grooming), medication management, and walking/garden paths.

For seniors experiencing various stages of memory loss, Oakmont offers individualized 24-hour care by providers trained in dementia education. This type of care helps those experiencing the early stages of dementia to more advanced cognitive changes. Residents can also participate in daily reminiscence activities designed to help older adults recall specific positive memories. Families of residents state that Oakmont provides excellent memory care for their loved ones. They say that the staff is welcoming, the amenities are upscale, the food is delicious, and there is always an event or activity for their loved ones to participate in.

Oakmont Activities and Services

Like most senior living facilities, Oakmont provides residents with comprehensive activities to help promote a sense of community, kinship, and belonging. These activities are based on a series of “core elements” designed to engage and enrich the lives of those participating. These elements – which fall into categories like “socialize,” “create,” “learn,” “contribute,” etc. – serve as a blueprint for the various events and excursions that Oakmont provides year-round. For instance, if you or a loved one seeks educational opportunities, the facility offers on-site classes, seminars, and presentations based on their “learn” element. By contrast, a hiking excursion with fellow residents would be considered a socializing activity. As with all other offerings, the core elements and types of activities vary across locations.

Oakmont Senior Living Cost

While Oakmont doesn’t publish prices on their website, according to Genworth Financial, the national annual median for a private, one-bedroom unit at an assisted living facility is an estimated $66,126 – or $5,511 monthly – in 2024.1

The costs can be considerably higher for luxury senior living communities. Since Oakmont’s floor plans, amenities, and services differ in each community, contact the location you’re interested in for information on specific costs. If you’re looking for a community with more transparent pricing, check out our Benchmark review. The company lists price estimates for different types of care online so you can make a more informed decision during your search.

How to Pay for Senior Living Costs

Many families choose to pay for senior living costs using a combination of private savings or funds, retirement accounts, Social Security benefits, and pension payments. Some choose to take advantage of long-term care insurance, but coverage may be limited and vary depending on your insurer.

While Medicare-covered health services provide coverage to assisted living residents, it doesn’t include day-to-day custodial or personal care. According to AARP, Medicare doesn’t cover the cost of assisted living facilities or any other long-term residential care, such as memory care.2  Accordingly, Oakmont does not accept Medicare for the costs of its facilities.

Did You Know?

Did You Know? You can start receiving Social Security retirement benefits as early as age 62. But you may want to consider delaying until you reach your full retirement (up to age 70) to receive a larger amount.3

Oakmont Senior Living Locations
