Best Silver IRA Companies in 2026
Goldco tops our list of best silver IRA providers for its hands-on customer support to first-time buyers and accessibility for investors with mid-sized retirement accounts.
We evaluated four silver IRA providers using their official disclosures, account minimums, published fees, storage arrangements, and custodian relationships. Our research also covered buyback terms, product selections, and current BBB profiles.
We completed several specific comparison steps, including:
- Checking every published minimum and recurring fee
- Reviewing Augusta’s educational conference and its discussion of risks
- Requesting information from Goldco and Augusta
- Assessing the speed and frequency of their follow-up
- Examining Birch Gold’s specialist-led purchasing model
- Noting Birch’s lack of online pricing and self-service transactions
- Comparing Noble Gold’s published fees with the other providers
- Calculating the annual fee burden at each minimum account size
- Reviewing current BBB ratings and complaint patterns
BBB data doesn’t measure investment performance, and complaint totals don’t account for differences in company size. For that reason, we treated this information as one part of the evaluation rather than a final verdict.
We prioritized affordability, fee transparency, senior-friendly education, storage clarity, liquidity, and reputation. We also considered whether each provider would suit a retiree living on a fixed income.

Silver IRA pitches can make diversification sound simple. In practice, comparing providers is difficult because several costs may not be clear upfront. The total price can include a dealer spread, custodian fees, and storage costs, while the future resale price may remain unknown until you call.
Promotional fee waivers and “free” metals can make the comparison even more confusing. These offers may sound valuable, but their cost can be built into the price of the silver.
We evaluated Augusta Precious Metals, Goldco, Birch Gold Group, and Noble Gold. Our research covered their minimums, account fees, storage arrangements, buyback terms, and BBB records. We also drew on our previous experience examining their educational materials and onboarding processes.
Each provider serves a different type of investor. Goldco offers hands-on support for first-time investors, while Augusta is best for larger, education-focused rollovers. Birch Gold has the lowest minimum, and Noble Gold stands out for its clearly published flat fees. Continue reading to learn more about each provider.
Pro Tip: FINRA reports that some gold and silver IRA fraud victims lost one-third to one-half of their savings because of markups, fees, and commissions.1 Before moving retirement money, read our guide to silver IRAs and compare the best gold IRA companies.

- $50,000 minimum investment
- About $225–$275 in recurring annual fees
- BBB-accredited
Augusta Precious MetalsGet Free Guide Links to Augustapreciousmetals.comOverview:Founded in 2012, Augusta Precious Metals generally requires $50,000 to open an account. That’s the highest minimum among our four picks. Augusta is best suited to retirees making a substantial rollover who want extensive education before choosing any metals.
During our review, Augusta’s required educational conference stood out because it covered IRA rules and common industry sales tactics before a purchase. We appreciated the slower pace and emphasis on education. However, experienced investors who are ready to act may find the additional step unnecessary.

Pros & Cons:Pros About Augusta Precious Metals
- Extensive educational resources
- Dedicated customer-success support
- Possible multi-year fee coverage
- Strong fit for larger rollovers
Cons About Augusta Precious Metals
- $50,000 minimum excludes smaller investors
- No platinum or palladium options
- Product markups require direct confirmation
Summary:Account Features
Augusta offers one-on-one education before a purchase, along with a dedicated customer-success agent. Its educational web conference typically lasts 60 to 90 minutes and covers economic conditions, IRA rules, and common precious-metals sales tactics. Augusta offers gold and silver, but not platinum or palladium. We also liked that customers receive a dedicated agent after the educational session, although we would have preferred a 24/7 online chat option.
Pricing & Fees
Estimated first-year costs range from $275–$325, including setup, custodian, and storage expenses. Recurring annual costs generally range from $225–$275. Augusta may cover these fees for qualifying accounts, sometimes for multiple years, but customers should request the exact terms in writing. Product markups are separate and must also be confirmed directly.
Customer Reviews
Augusta remains BBB-accredited, but its profile is currently listed as Not Rated because the BBB says it lacks sufficient information to issue a rating. This is not the same as a failing grade. Recent reviewers continue to praise the company’s educational webinar and responsive representatives.2

3. Birch Gold Group - Best Low Minimum for Smaller Accounts
Claim Free Kit Links to Birchgold.comWhat we like most
- $5,000 minimum investment
- About $225–$235 in recurring annual fees
- A+ BBB rating
Birch Gold GroupClaim Free Kit Links to Birchgold.comOverview:Birch Gold Group has a $5,000 minimum investment, making it the most accessible provider on our list. It also offers all four major IRA-eligible precious metals. This combination makes Birch a strong option for smaller accounts and investors who want more than gold and silver.
The low minimum comes with an important drawback. Annual administration and storage fees can equal roughly 4.5–4.7 percent of a $5,000 account before the product markup. Birch may be affordable to enter, but its fixed fees provide better relative value as the account balance grows.
>> Our Full Review: Birch Gold Group IRA Review
Pros & Cons:Pros About Birch Gold Group
- Accessible $5,000 minimum
- Four precious-metal options
- A+ BBB rating
- Dedicated specialist support
Cons About Birch Gold Group
- High fee burden on a minimum-size account
- No online purchasing
- All transactions require phone contact
- Product markups are not published
Summary:Account Features
Birch offers gold, silver, platinum, and palladium, giving it the broadest metal selection among our four picks. During our review, we liked that a dedicated specialist remains involved through funding, custodian coordination, and product selection. We would have preferred an online purchase option for experienced investors who need less guidance. We also could not find approximate product prices online, so customers must request current quotes by phone.
Pricing & Fees
Birch customers generally pay a $50 setup fee and a $30 wire fee. Annual administration costs approximately $125, while storage and insurance generally cost $100–$110. Recurring annual expenses therefore, total about $225–$235, excluding the dealer spread.
Customer Reviews
Birch Gold is BBB-accredited and currently holds an A+ rating. Reviewers often praise the company’s patient representatives and smooth account setup.5 Customers should still research the custodian and depository independently, since those third parties administer and store the assets.

4. Noble Gold - Best for Predictable Flat Fees
What we like most
- Clearly published account fees
- Segregated storage included in the annual price
- Lower minimum than Goldco or Augusta
Overview:Noble Gold requires $20,000 to open a Silver IRA. Its minimum is lower than Goldco’s and Augusta’s, though it remains considerably higher than Birch Gold’s. Noble is a strong fit for investors who prioritize predictable annual costs and want segregated storage included in the advertised fee.
During our review of Noble’s public support materials, the setup, custodian, and segregated-storage fees were easy to verify without a phone call. We could not find a published dealer spread or fixed buyback formula, so investors still need a written product quote to understand the complete cost.

Since Noble doesn’t publish a fixed buyback formula, customers should request a purchase quote and same-day resale quote for the same product.
Pricing & Fees
Noble Gold charges a one-time $80 setup fee, followed by a flat annual rate of $275. This includes $125 for custodial services and $150 for segregated storage. The annual cost does not include the dealer spread or possible transaction and closing fees.

How a Silver IRA Actually Works
“Silver IRA” is an industry term for a self-directed traditional or Roth IRA that holds eligible physical silver. It is not a separate tax category.
First, you establish an account with a qualified custodian. You can then fund it through a contribution, transfer, or rollover. Once the money arrives, you direct the custodian to purchase eligible silver and send it to the designated storage facility.
Eligible silver bullion generally must meet the applicable market fineness standard, which is commonly .999 fine (meaning 99.9% pure silver bullion). Federal law also requires qualifying bullion to remain in the trustee’s physical possession. Taking the silver home may cause the IRS to treat it as a distribution.7
For 2026, direct contributions to traditional and Roth IRAs are limited to $7,500. People age 50 or older may contribute up to $8,600. Properly completed rollovers and trustee-to-trustee transfers do not count against those limits.8
FYI: Ask any provider to name their custodian and depository, then verify both independently. Our gold IRA custodian guide explains what to check.
Understanding Fees, Markups, and Buybacks
A silver IRA can involve five separate costs:
- Account setup or wire fees
- Annual custodian fees
- Storage and insurance
- The dealer spread
- Liquidation, shipping, or closing costs
The dealer spread is often the least transparent expense. Ask for the current spot value of the silver and the total purchase price. You should also request the dealer’s same-day buyback offer, since the difference shows the immediate loss that must be recovered.
Annual fees affect smaller accounts more heavily. Birch’s recurring fees equal roughly 4.5–4.7 percent of its $5,000 minimum, while Noble’s fee equals about 1.38 percent of its $20,000 minimum.
Goldco’s annual fees equal approximately 0.9–1.1 percent of its $25,000 minimum. Augusta’s equal approximately 0.45–0.55 percent of its $50,000 minimum.
These calculations don’t include the product spread, nor do they mean that a larger rollover is automatically better. They simply show why the advertised minimum is an incomplete measure of affordability.

Is a Silver IRA a Fit for Someone on a Fixed Income?
Physical silver produces no interest or dividends, and selling it may take longer than selling a stock, bond, or fund. These limitations matter for retirees who need regular withdrawals to cover housing, health care, and other living expenses.
Traditional IRAs are subject to required minimum distributions. The starting age is generally 73 for people born from 1951 through 1959 and 75 for those born in 1960 or later. Roth IRA owners are not required to take lifetime RMDs.
A retiree may need to sell silver to satisfy an RMD. Another option is taking an in-kind distribution, which may create a tax obligation.9

A Note for Family Caregivers
Precious-metals pitches often rely on fear, urgency, or promises of protection from a market crash. FINRA, the CFTC, and NASAA have warned older investors about these tactics, along with inflated markups and commissions.
If a relative receives a pitch, review the paperwork together without taking over the decision. Ask the salesperson for an itemized quote, then wait at least 24 hours before signing or transferring funds.
Verify the dealer, custodian, and depository separately. You may also want to show the proposal to an adviser who will not earn money if the transaction proceeds.

The Bottom Line
Each provider serves a different type of retiree. Goldco offers guided support for first-time buyers with at least $25,000, while Augusta is best for investors with at least $50,000 who value extensive education.
Birch Gold has the lowest minimum and broadest metal selection. However, its fees are expensive relative to a minimum-size account. Noble Gold offers the clearest published fee schedule for investors comfortable with its $20,000 requirement.
We recommend that you compare the full round-trip cost before choosing a provider, rather than focusing only on the minimum or advertised annual fee. We also suggest that you request the product spread, same-day buyback value, storage terms, and promotional conditions in writing.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Is my silver in an IRA insured like a bank account?
No. Depository insurance is private coverage governed by the storage agreement, not the same protection offered by the FDIC or SIPC. Ask for the coverage limits and exclusions in writing.
-
What's the biggest hidden cost in a silver IRA?
It is usually the difference between the purchase price and the dealer’s buyback value. Ask for both figures before completing the purchase.
-
Can I store IRA silver at home?
Ordinarily, no. Eligible bullion must remain in the trustee’s physical possession while held inside the IRA. Taking possession can be treated as a taxable distribution, so be cautious of “home-storage IRA” pitches.
-
How fast can I get cash if I need it?
The process may involve the dealer, custodian, and depository, making it slower than selling a publicly traded fund. Ask about the expected settlement timeline before buying.
-
Is a silver IRA pitch automatically a scam?
No, but certain practices are clear warning signs. These can include guaranteed returns, fear-based claims, undisclosed spreads, and pressure to transfer an entire retirement account.
