Assisted Living Facilities in Las Cruces

Las Cruces is located at the intersection of I-10 and I-25, in the southern Chihuahuan Desert. Like all of New Mexico, Las Cruces has very few rainy days per year. Unlike the northern, sky-kissing regions of this state, however, Las Cruces has a lower sea level elevation of 3,900 feet. For reference, Santa Fe and Taos, in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of northern New Mexico, hover at around 7,000 ft. above sea level. San Cruces’s lower elevation may be more comfortable and safer for New Mexican seniors with pulmonary disease or cardiac disease. For these and other reasons, this large city is a popular destination for retirement communities and assisted living facilities. Here are a few you may wish to consider.

La Posada Assisted Living is located on Montana Ave., near a beautiful stretch of historic, two-lane Highway 28. You’ll get there faster, depending on traffic, on I-25. This facility is a subsidiary of Mesilla Valley Hospice. La Posada offers long-term assisted living rentals and short-term respite stays. Residents here benefit from 24-hour-a-day nursing care, emergency call systems in their living quarters, and individualized care plans. There are also daily opportunities for socializing and self-care, including access to a salon and wellness center.

Solstice Senior Living at Las Cruces is on Roadrunner Parkway, east of I-10. This facility is geared towards seniors looking for an independent living community. This pet-friendly facility offers residents a very full social calendar, filled with everything from art classes to interesting excursions. Home health care professionals are on hand for seniors who need support with activities of daily living (ADLs). If your needs change over the years, Solstice will be able to accommodate many of them, although they don’t offer memory care services. No matter what your need level, you’ll be given a free Lively Mobile Plus medical alert device, which connects you to help 24/7.

The Aristocrat Assisted Living Community Las Cruces is located on Claude Dove Dr., just north of the intersection of I-10 and I-25. This modern assisted living community has a memory care wing. Single and double occupancy apartments are available for both assisted living and memory care residents, with care levels ranging from 1-3.

Hospitals in Las Cruces

Mountainview Regional Medical Center, on E. Lohman Ave., has two separate ER departments – one in the main medical center, and one on N. Main. Wait times here are said to range between 3-5 minutes. Laboratory and imaging services, as well as trauma-trained professionals, are available at both locations. The Medical Center offers a wide range of health care specialists, from bariatric care to heart care and joint replacement.

Memorial Medical Center, on S. Telshor Blvd., has an ER with an estimated wait time of 8 minutes. This facility is known for its cardiac care wing and tendon pain reduction treatments.

Three Crosses Regional Hospital, on Samaritan Dr., is a full-service, 46-bed, acute care facility. It contains an ER and an intensive care unit. Laboratory services, onsite imaging, and surgical services are available.

Things To Do in Las Cruces

The New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum is a 47-acre facility on Dripping Springs Road. Here, seniors and their families can glimpse back in time to a bygone historical era. This Museum’s indoor and outdoor exhibits also provide important information about New Mexico’s current agricultural contributions to the U.S. Senior-friendly activities include interesting lectures and demonstrations of crafts and blacksmithing. The Museum’s Heart of the Desert Gift Shop specializes in yummy pistachio and wine gifts. It also houses a snack bar with a light lunch menu. The Museum is fully accessible, and wheelchairs are available.

Ten miles east of Las Cruces is the Dripping Springs Natural Area, on the west side of the Organ Mountains. Dripping Springs has four miles of easy hiking trails that active seniors can enjoy. If you’re a wildlife or bird watcher, make sure to bring your binoculars. Ladder-backed woodpeckers, red-tailed hawks, and desert cottontails, to name but a few desert species, make their homes here.

The Farmers and Crafts Market on N. Main St. has been serving up local produce and eclectic collectibles for over 50 years. Seniors can enjoy an easy stroll while sampling the wares of over 60 vendors. The Market is situated next to several museums, as well as the Rio Grande Theatre, which specializes in old movies. You can make a day of it by catching a show or a vintage film while you’re enjoying Las Cruces downtown.

Senior Living Ratings Methodology

Our experts spent over 50 hours researching the best communities in each city, focusing on these key factors.

Senior Living Ratings Methodology

Available Care

We value communities that offer more than standard living services, such as memory care and independent living. We think this is beneficial for older adults, as it allows a community to meet your changing needs over time.

Amenities

Amenities can help an assisted living community feel like a luxury resort or a home away from home. Our research focuses on communities that offer extra perks and benefits for seniors to enjoy.

Location

Location can be important. Since many seniors like to have certain comforts nearby, we look at communities close to parks, shopping areas, hospitals, museums, and other practical or entertaining points of interest.

Reviews

We read through dozens of reviews for every single contender and include a summary of our findings. In most cases, we see common themes regarding positive and negative feedback about each community. Just remember not to take individual reviews at face value.

Cost

Assisted living costs vary greatly based on the facility and level of care. We considered communities that are suitable for various budgets and offer solid value. All prices listed are from community websites.
