Spouses
According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Fair Housing Act, to be deemed as 55+ senior housing, 80 percent of the units must have at least one occupant who is 55 or older.1

For example, The Villages, Florida, is a 55+ community that forbids full-time residents under the age of 19, even if they are children of a resident. The Villages allows guests under 18 who aren’t family members to stay for up to 30 consecutive days, and children of residents can apply for a guest ID card that’s valid for up to one year.2
