St Louis (MO) Senior Living Communities

St. Louis is truly a world-class city with attractions that make other metro areas envious. Not only that, retirees looking for St. Louis senior living options will find dozens of low-cost options.

If you’re looking to stretch those retirement dollars, St. Louis is the place to do it. The overall cost of living is 9% lower than the national average. Senior living options are equally as attractive. For example, a one-bedroom in an assisted living facility averages $2,930 a month (the national average is $3,261), according to a Genworth Financial study on long-term care. A private room in a nursing home averages $165 a day, while a semi-private averages $145.

The most iconic landmark in is the 630-foot tall Arch, which provides a commanding city-view once you ride the elevator to the top. See where Lewis and Clark started their historic journey at the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. The Museum of Contemporary Religious Art (MOCRA), a former chapel, is the world’s first museum of interfaith contemporary art. Do you like science? Visit the St. Louis Science Center and see over 700 exhibits including the Boeing Space Station as well as the McDonnell Planetarium and OMNIMAX Theater.

Even in this urban jungle, you’ll find slices of nature like the 79-acre Missouri Botanical Garden with its Climatron geodesic greenhouse and Japanese Garden. The Sachs Butterfly House shelters 60 species of butterflies in an 8,000-square-foot glass observatory. At the World Bird Sanctuary, you can see eagles, owls, hawks and other bird species as well as hike on the trails, feeding songbird along the way. The Endangered Wolf Center has “endangered North American wolves and foxes, African wild dogs and South American maned wolves.” The 1,371-acre Forest Park is one of the largest urban parks in the country. Here you’ll find 8 miles of biking, walking and jogging paths, lakes, an art museum, Zoo, Science Center, and History Museum.
