Created by former health care executives, WellBe from HandsFree Health equips older adults with artificial intelligence technology that goes beyond medical alert protection. With subscription prices for medical alert systems ranging from $29.95 to $39.95 per month, WellBe falls in the middle of the medical alert system pricing spectrum. The high-tech systems are HIPAA-compliant and promote overall wellness in older adults, which we think justifies paying a bit more.

A Closer Look at WellBe’s Systems and Value

WellBe offers four packages: WellBe Smart Speaker, WellBe Smartwatch, WellBe Smartwatch with fall detection, and WellBe Pendant, along with a few bundling options. Equipment fees range from $119.95 to $199.95, while monthly subscription costs range from $29.95 to $39.95.  We have to admit, some of their devices and subscriptions are more expensive than traditional systems. For comparison, LifeFone’s prices and MobileHelp's monthly costs start under $30 without equipment fees.. However, we think the high-tech health care assistance, paired with an intuitive mobile app, outweighs the extra money you’ll pay in equipment and service fees.

For ultimate protection and the best value, we recommend purchasing one of WellBe’s medical alert bundles. The bundle costs $39.95 monthly for the subscription and has an equipment fee of $189.95 to $199.95, depending on the bundle you choose. The package includes the WellBe Smart Speaker and either the Medical Alert Watch or Medical Alert Pendant. The bundle offers major monthly savings, and the equipment fees are more affordable than comparable high-tech systems from providers we’ve tested like Aloe Care Health.

For example, Aloe Care Health’s Total Care package has a one-time hardware cost of $349.99 and a $49.99 monthly service fee. WellBe’s bundles are around $150 cheaper than Aloe Care Health’s Total Care Package, and WellBe’s monthly rates are around $10 cheaper.

WellBe Smart Speaker

Price: $189
Subscription Cost: None

WellBe Smart Speaker

WellBe Smart Speaker

Did You Know?

Did You Know? The WellBe Smart Speaker flashes different colors based on the household member the reminder is for.

Features:

  • Access to a database of healthcare information
  • Voice-enabled smart speaker
  • Medications, appointments, blood pressure, and glucose readings monitored
  • HIPAA-compliant platform
  • WellBe Virtual Assistant companion app
  • Music, news, and weather
  • Reminders for up to six different household members
  • Answers medical insurance and health questions

Smart speakers are continuing to grow in popularity, even among seniors, with 19 percent of adults over 65 having one in their home.1 It’s no wonder medical alert companies are taking notice and designing smart speakers specifically with older adults in mind.

At $189 with no additional subscription fees, the WellBe Smart Speaker is ideal for seniors who don’t want to pay a monthly fee. However, the smart speaker can only connect you to WellBe’s emergency monitoring center if you press a red button on the top of the speaker or say “OK, WellBe, emergency.” The speaker doesn’t come with a wearable help button like many other popular alert systems do.

FYI:

FYI: WellBe has an extensive pet health database to answer questions about the health of your furry friend. You can set pet medication and vet appointment reminders as well!

The emergency alert protection that the WellBe Smart Speaker provides alone is not as comprehensive as Lifeline's systems or Medical Guardian's products. If you’re more interested in the digital health assistant features of WellBe than the emergency alert protection, the smart speaker is a great price for the robust digital health care assistance it provides.

WellBe Smartwatch

Price: $119.95 to $159.95
Subscription: $29.95 per month

Features:

  • 24/7 mobile access to emergency monitoring service

  • Optional fall detection

In an AARP study, 46 percent of adults over the age of 50 reported being more active when wearing an activity tracker.2 Combining the benefits of a fitness tracker and a medical alert system, the WellBe Smartwatch lets older adults track their steps and heart rate while knowing help is right at their fingertips if needed.

The WellBe Smartwatch provides discreet on-the-go medical alert protection at a fair price. While there are more affordable watches on the market, WellBe is comparable to other top-tier smartwatches. At $119.95, the device costs about $80 less than Medical Guardian’s MGMove smartwatch. If you want to upgrade the watch to include fall detection, the equipment fees get a bit pricier at $159.95. You’ll also tack on an extra $10 per month.

If you’re looking for a sleek, mobile medical alert system, the WellBe Smartwatch is an excellent option for active seniors that offers great value.

  • WellBe Smart Speaker
  • WellBe Smartwatch or WellBe Pendant
  • HIPAA-compliant platform
  • Easy setup

For older adults who could benefit from a mobile medical alert system and a virtual health-care assistant, WellBe bundles truly offer the best of both worlds. We think it’s worth the extra money, since you’ll save on equipment fees and monthly rates compared to buying two WellBe systems separately.

Keep in Mind:

Keep in Mind: WellBe systems come with a limited warranty that covers manufacturing defects. It does not cover normal wear and tear or accidents.

If you’re juggling a lot of appointments, medications, and health care, a Medical Alert bundle is going to provide the most bang for your buck. It can help you manage your health care information and provide the safety and assurance of a mobile medical alert system.

WellBe Pendant

Price: $119.95
Subscription: $29.95 per month

WellBe Pendant

WellBe Pendant

Features

  • Two-way communication
  • GPS location tracking
  • Optional fall detection
  • 24/7 access to emergency monitoring
  • Water-resistant
  • Lightweight

For older adults who want a traditional mobile medical alert system or need an option with fall detection, the WellBe pendant is a great choice. It is a sleek, lightweight device, measuring under two inches in width and just a half-inch in depth, so it can be worn comfortably and discreetly around the neck. At $29.95 per month, the WellBe Pendant is comparable to other similar systems on the market.

This all-in-one device provides coverage anywhere at any time. Along with the advanced features, like two-way communication and GPS location detection, which also come with the WellBe smartwatch, the pendant offers built-in fall detection. We recommend adding fall detection for those at high risk of falls or a history of falls. This add-on costs $10 per month, which is standard for the industry.

WellBe Virtual Assistant App

The WellBe Virtual Assistant app is the brains of the WellBe systems. You can download it on any Apple or Android device. In this secure app, you input your health and medical information. Don’t worry! Your information is kept private on WellBe’s HIPAA-compliant platform. Once you’ve entered the necessary information, WellBe can begin notifying you about doctor appointments, medication refills, and more. You can even ask WellBe questions about your health insurance coverage. The app will also send you notifications on your phone as health reminders.

For seniors who aren’t comfortable using technology, caregivers can input the information and set up WellBe even if they are far away, thanks to the company’s Universal Registration technology. The app also notifies emergency contacts via text message if the user misses a medication dose or has initiated an emergency call. This provides loved ones the immense peace of knowing they will immediately become aware if Mom or Dad is not doing well. Overall, this mobile app offers excellent value for older adults and caregivers alike. Plus, it’s free, which is always a bonus!

Is WellBe Right for Me?

In America, 27 percent of adults over the age of 60 live alone.3 If you live alone, a medical alert system is a good idea to consider for more protection. We aren’t always within arm’s reach of our cell phones, and in an emergency, a medical alert system could make all the difference.

WellBe provides the security of a medical alert system paired with preventative health assistance. Let’s say you forget to take your blood pressure medication. As a result, you could become lightheaded and experience a fall. WellBe’s medication reminders are a proactive step in preventing seniors from needing emergency services in the first place. We think that is pretty awesome!

You may want to consider a WellBe system if:

  • You struggle to remember your doctor’s appointments.
  • You need quick answers to health questions.
  • You live alone and would like medical alert protection in and outside your home.
  • You find it difficult to remember your health insurance benefits.
  • You don’t mind paying a little extra for high-tech features.

Final Thoughts on Pricing and Value for WellBe

We think the preventative health assistance offered by WellBe systems is extremely valuable if you’re an older adult struggling to remember all the details of your medications and medical appointments. WellBe’s systems are also a great fit for tech-savvy seniors who want a medical alert system with modern features. Plus, caregivers and adult children can gain peace of mind in knowing they’ll be kept in the loop and that their loved one’s health schedule is managed by WellBe. All in all, for seniors looking for a high-tech medical alert system with digital health care assistance capabilities, WellBe is definitely a medical alert provider worth considering.
