Brookdale Federal Way, formerly Emeritus at Federal Way is a Federal Way WA assisted living community, tucked in a lovely, quiet and safe neighborhood just off South 320th St. and Pacific Highway South in downtown Federal Way. Shops, restaurants and parks are all within easy walking distance, and a bus stop is just one block away. Major hospitals, skilled nursing facilities and the Virginia Mason Clinic are also close by. And for residents who love to shop, The Commons at Federal Way, formerly SeaTac Mall, is less than a mile away.

One of the greatest benefits of living at Brookdale Federal Way is our location. While we are on a quiet tree-lined street, nearby is Albertson’s grocery store, where many of our residents enjoy a morning or afternoon stroll for snacks. Residents also frequently visit Wal-Mart, Joann’s Fabrics and the Dollar Store, also within walking distance. For convenient shopping, we are an easy drive to the Commons at Federal Way, a major mall with many restaurants, retail shops, banks, Borders Books and Music, and even a movie theater. Several medical facilities are also in the neighborhood, including St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Auburn General Hospital, the Virginia Mason Clinic and four skilled nursing facilities within a two-mile radius. There is a small lake within walking distance, and two parks, Steele Lake Park and Dash Point State Park on Puget Sound, located just a short drive from our community. And of course, Mt. Rainer dominates the landscape; in fact, it can be seen from our community room on the second floor and from some of our apartments.

A Wonderful Selection

Our two-story community offers 98 senior living apartments, including 85 studios and a combination of different one-bedroom suites, some providing up to 600 square feet of living space. All of our apartments include very large windows and spacious closets, grab bars in the bathrooms, and a microwave and small refrigerator. Some apartments also look at spectacular Mt. Rainer, while others have sliding glass doors that open onto one of our two interior courtyards. Learn more about the features and services available in Brookdale’ senior living communities.

Our common areas are another wonderful feature of Brookdale Federal Way. In fact, when you stop by for a visit, you’ll notice that our community rooms are exceptionally spacious – larger than most other communities in the region. Common areas include an enormous living room with gas fireplace and lovely seating areas, a spacious activity room and expansive common dining room. Should residents want to bake cookies or prepare a meal, a community kitchen is available. This is also where we offer occasional cooking classes! Our senior living community was once a nursing home, so our hallways are extra wide to accommodate wheelchairs. The overall feeling of openness and space is beautifully complemented by the warm, homey feeling of the furnishings and décor.

Strong, Caring Professional Relationships

We work closely with four different skilled nursing communities, each conveniently located within a two-mile radius of our senior living community, so we can make recommendations to family members should their loved one need extra short-term medical care. Once a resident moves into skilled nursing, our community resident care director and nursing staff will visit them at the facility to check on their status and to see when they might be ready to come home to us. Our staff is also very familiar with the offerings of our local hospitals and local physician offices, and can refer residents as needed.

Our Staff

Our staff consists of both full and part-time staff members, including resident assistants, who are responsible for providing all of the daily care to our residents. In addition, we have RNs and LPNs on staff, who provide a total of 16 hours of nursing care each day. We also employ medicine technicians, who are responsible for medication management. In fact, as specialists in managing diabetic care, Brookdale Federal Way is one of the only senior living communities in the region able to provide “sliding scale” medication management for residents with diabetes, managed by licensed nurses. With this expertise, we can support their fluctuating insulin needs on a daily basis, giving them exactly the dosage required depending upon their blood sugar levels. In addition, all of our caregivers receive ongoing training either here at our community or off-site every month. For example, we recently brought in an expert to provide training in dementia. And every staff member is certified in both CPR and first aid.

A Wonderful Active Lifestyle

Many of our residents join us five days a week for our seated group exercise program, which includes light weights, kick ball and stretching. We also offer Bingo three days a week, daily card games, happy hour on Fridays, two church services every week, and regular outings to local restaurants. In addition, we take residents to the local movie theater once a month and occasionally to the Federal Way symphony. We also schedule regular store trips to our local Big Lots and Wal-Mart, as well as outings to Dash Point State Park and to the Muckleshoot Casino; transportation in our own vans is provided. Federal Way has a brand new library, just two miles from our community. Every month, the library travels to us with all kinds of books, even special requests, for our residents to enjoy. And for something totally different, many residents have become very involved in Wii bowling, including participating in Wii tournaments with other Brookdale communities in the area. What about holidays? We always celebrate every major holiday, offering a lunch or dinner which is typically a few days before the holiday for our residents and their families and friends.

Partnering with the Local Neighborhood Community

Throughout the year, the community at large is invited to join us for our open houses, when they can take tours, meet our staff, enjoy refreshments and chat with our residents. We also welcome anyone to come by for a tour anytime, seven days a week, when a staff member will be available to show you through our community.

We partner with the Federal Way Senior Center, located less than five miles from our community, and often take residents to enjoy lunch and various events and classes held at the center. Our community also has excellent relationships with the local hospitals and doctors’ offices, including St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Auburn General Hospital and the Virginia Mason Clinic.

Fine Dining

We serve three meals each day, restaurant-style, including two dinner entrees and alternative choices. If a resident wants a full meal, it’s available, but if they only want a chef’s salad or sandwich, they need only ask. Our dining services staff is very flexible and creative, always finding new offerings and theme menus for special occasions – such as our Mexican fiesta night. Our food gets kudos from our residents. What about special diets? That’s no problem. We can accommodate diabetic diets and doctor-prescribed diets for residents who need their food prepared in a special way for easier digestion. We can also provide meals for vegetarians. Fruit, muffins and cookies are available all day in our activities room.

Brookdale Federal Way Reviews

10 Star Rating
Honestly after reading the reviews, I know better. They were very nice and patient! The lady drawing my blood didn't do a perfect job initially, but she did " pass the buck " situation in which I can't find anyone at Brookdale who will take responsibility getting the completed forms submitted to CalPERS so they can process claims. When I try to get them to help me with my physical therapy. She also dealt with my bandage replacement when ever it needed it and the swelling. Always on time and accomidating when I needed to move around an appointment.
