Virginia Beach (VA) Senior Living Communities

Whether you like outdoor adventure, relaxing on the beach or exploring the past, “The Resort City” has a little something for everyone. And you’ll find hundreds of Virginia Beach senior living options to fit every need and budget. Before you begin your search, see what else this waterfront city has to offer.

Virginia Beach’s 35 miles of public beaches include the three-mile boardwalk at Resort Beach, Sandbridge’s 5 miles of dunes along the Atlantic and the calmer waters along the Chesapeake Bay Beach. In this area, explore the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge and False Cape State Park. At the 9,250-acre Back Bay, you’ll an oasis of beaches, dunes, woodlands, and marshes with wildlife such as migrating snow geese, bald eagles, piping plovers, peregrine falcons and loggerhead sea turtles to name a few. Another natural jewel is the First Landing State Park located by the Chesapeake Bay. Here you’ll find swimming, nature and history programs, hiking, biking, campsites and cabins, all within its 2,888 acres.

The area is home to more historical locations than we have room for, but here’s a sample. The two Cape Henry lighthouses—built in 1792 and 1881 respectively—are worth a visit at Fort Story at the entryway into the Chesapeake Bay. Experience how the early Virginia Beach residents lived at the Thoroughgood House, built in 1680, and preserved with period furniture, gardens, and historically-costumed guides. The Ferry Plantation House was originally built in 1642 but the current house only dates to 1830. The area’s past—including a witch trial—is enough to keep you thinking for years to come. The 200-year-old Francis Land House is another well-preserved representative of the area’s past.

Fortunately, the city’s cost of living—7% above the national average—is nothing like her sister cities to the north. And Virginia Beach’s senior living options are also more reasonable than other nearby cities. For example, a one-bedroom in an assisted living facility averages $3,995 a month, according to a Genworth Financial survey on long-term care. A private room in a nursing home averages $207 a day, while a semi-private averages $183 a day.
