Lubbock (TX) Senior Living Communities

Founded by a Texas Ranger. Birthplace of Buddy Holly. Texas Tech Red Raiders football. The “Hub City”--surrounded by five major Texas highways—is a low cost option for retirees. Before searching for Lubbock senior living options, we’ll show you what makes this Texas city special.

For seniors on a budget, Lubbock makes an ideal retirement home. The overall cost of living is 12% below the national average. And Texas doesn’t tax retirement income like many other states. Lubbock senior living options are also appealing. For example, a one-bedroom in an assisted living facility averages $3,050 a month, according to a Genworth Financial survey. A private room in a nursing home averages $158 a month, while a semi-private averages $135. If you home health aide services, expect to pay $35,990 yearly based on 44 hours a week.

Here’s a selection of Lubbock’s museums: At the American Wind Power Center, you’ll find the most extensive collection of old windmills in the world. Silent Wings Museum is a dedicated to WWII glider pilots and features a restored WACO CG-4A glider, artifacts and period equipment. The Buddy Holly Center pays tribute to Lubbock’s native son and other famous musicians of West Texas. The Museum of Texas Tech University features a 5 million-object collection from the arts, humanities and sciences.

Also at Texas Tech, check out the National Ranching Heritage Center, a museum of ranching history with restored period structures such as a railroad depot, barn, schoolhouse and homestead. The university’s Moody Planetarium is a domed auditorium where you can see astronomy shows and laser lights choreographed to the Beatles. Another impressive attraction is the Science Spectrum and Omni Theater with its permanent and traveling exhibits like Da Vinci and the IMAX theater.
