According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the city’s overall cost of living is 9% below the national average. Nashville’s weather falls in the humid subtropical category like many Southern states. But because it’s further north, the summers are a shade less severe—the July average high is 88 degrees. And the winters bring occasional snow and lower average lows—28 degrees average in January.

Local historical attractions include Fort Negley and Fort Nashborough, a reconstructed Civil War fort. Representing a time many centuries before the Lost Cause is the Parthenon, a full-size reproduction of the Greek temple, complete with art museum. Nearby and worth a visit is The Hermitage, Andrew Jackson’s plantation home
