For seniors on a budget, living in Lincoln will really allow you to stretch your dollars. The overall cost of living is 7% below the national average. Some Nebraska senior living options are very affordable. For example, a one-bedroom in an assisted living facility averages $2,803 a month, according to a Genworth Financial survey. The national average is $3,261. A private room in a nursing home averages $188 a day while a semi-private averages $175.
Learn about Lincoln’s past at one of their many fine museums such as Frank Woods Telephone Pioneer Museum, Larsen Tractor Museum, Nebraska History Museum, and the University of Nebraska State Museum. See a show at any of the city’s performing arts venues: Haymarket Theater, Lied Center for Performing Arts, Lincoln Community Playhouse, Rococo Theater, and the Kimball Recital Hall among others.
Lincoln has over 6,000 acres of public parks, which includes lakes, swimming pools, public golf courses, almost 80 miles of hiking and biking trails, an observatory, recreation centers, and a tennis complex. The 1,100-acre Pioneers Park and Nature Center has an outdoor amphitheater, hiker/biker trails, ponds, a sled run and a golf course. The city’s largest park is Wilderness Park featuring 1,475 acres with 22 miles of hiking and biking trails. For more outdoor adventure, check out nearby Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center , an 800-acre oasis of native tall grass prairie with walking trails, wetlands and woodlands.
