Kansas City (MO) Senior Living Communities

Known as The Paris of the Plains and the City of Fountains, Kansas City has a rich culture and is a surprisingly inexpensive big city. Before searching the hundreds of Kansas City senior living options on this site, find out what this city on the confluence of the Missouri and Kansas rivers has to offer.

KC is a bargain compared to other cities its size. The overall cost of living is just below the national average. And senior living options are also cheaper than the rest of the country. For example, a one-bedroom in an assisted living facility averages just $2,805 a month, according to Genworth Financial’s survey of long-term care. The national average is $3,205. A private room in a nursing home averages $155 a day, while a semi-private averages $147 a day.

About its nicknames: KC is second to Rome in the number of city water fountains. And it has more boulevards (132 miles) than any city except…you guessed it, Paris. You’ll also find 214 urban parks such as Swope Park, which at 1,805 acres is twice the size of Central Park in New York. The park features a zoo, a wildlife rescue center, two golf courses, 2-mile Fox Hollow exercise trail, mountain biking trails, tennis courts, cricket fields, two lakes, an amphitheater and many more attractions.

One of the more noticeable landmarks in Kansas City is the Kauffman Center, home of the Kansas City Ballet, Kansas City Symphony, and Lyric Opera. The 285,000 square-foot facility—a stainless steel and glass shell--houses two theaters with views of the city. Another architectural delight is the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, which house over 34,000 pieces of art from 5,000-year-old Egyptian pottery to the most contemporary painting. The list of cultural attractions is endless: the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, the Crossroads Art District and many others.
