Colorado Springs (CO) Senior Living Communities

Tucked in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains directly in the shadow of towering Pikes Peak, Colorado Springs has many facets—healthy hi-tech industry, Olympic Training Center, Air Force Academy, world-class skiing nearby, a large contingent of organized religious organizations, and breathtaking scenery. Top all this off with a low cost of living and Colorado Springs senior living becomes especially attractive.

To the north along the Front Range, sit the more expensive options of Denver, Boulder and Fort Collins. C-Springs is still affordable with an overall cost of living that is 8% below the national average. The median home price is still under $200,000. A one-bedroom in assisted living facility averages $3,275 a month, according to a Genworth Financial survey. A private room in a nursing home averages $221 a day, while a semi-private averages $208.

With 250 days of yearly sunshine and its position at the foot of the Rockies, it’s no wonder residents like to be outdoors. Pick your poison: biking, hiking, walking, skiing, fishing, golfing. The area has over 15,000 acres of parks and open space, 265 miles of trails, and two public golf courses (and dozens of private courses). And you can get to nearly a dozen ski resorts—Vail, Breckenridge, Beaver Creek, etc—in less than three hours.

You’ll have a much easier time than Zeb Pike did in his failed attempt to climb Pike’s Peak. Today, you can drive to the summit on Pike’s Peak Highway or take a cog railway. From the top, not only will you see Colorado Springs below, you’ll can also see into Kansas on a clear day. Spend the day at Garden of the Gods, a public park known for its impressive geological formations, hiking, biking and bird watching.
