    Highlights

    • Special programs to promote wellness
    • Scheduled transportation
    • Pet-friendly community

    Overview

Prestige Senior Living manages senior living communities throughout the western United States and parts of Canada. The Henderson location is among its most popular since it is conveniently located in the luxurious Green Valley South neighborhood, just minutes away from the Harry Reid International Airport. Residents can enjoy the natural beauty of the nearby Pittman Wash and Legacy West Park, along with the conveniences of nearby shopping and city living.

Prestige Senior Living at Mira Loma focuses on two primary-care programs: Celebrations and Expressions. Celebrations fosters physical, spiritual, and emotional wellness through various activities, while Expressions uses innovative techniques to turn daily activities into memorable moments for residents with dementia. It’s not all about taking part in organized activities though. We appreciate the community’s holistic approach to care since staying healthy is about so much more than just physical health. The Mira Loma location features a luxurious facility with comfortable common areas, a beauty salon, and areas for religious services. Mira Loma is a good option for seniors with furry friends since it’s a pet-friendly community with ample outdoor space.

    Did You Know?

Did You Know? More than 10 percent of adults ages 65 or older have Alzheimer’s.2

Prestige Senior Living at Mira Loma is also one of the most affordable assisted living communities in Henderson. With apartment rates starting at $2,300 per month, it is far less expensive than alternatives like Green Valley Senior Care Home and BeeHive Homes of Henderson. That makes Mira Loma an excellent choice for seniors who want quality care and wellness programs at an affordable price.

    Types of Care

Prestige Senior Living at Mira Loma offers assisted living, memory care, and short-term stays. The assisted living section of the property is for people who need assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), while memory care offers more intensive care for people living with dementia or other forms of memory loss. The ability to check in for short-term stays is a welcome feature for seniors who need to recover from surgery or a safe place to stay while their primary caregiver is unavailable.

It’s not technically part of their care offerings, but Prestige Senior Living at Mira Loma also offers coordinated hospice care. That brings it closer to a full continuum of care facility, where seniors can age in place without needing to move away from a community they’ve grown to love. We appreciate that the community offers a full range of care for people who want to stay in one place as their needs change.

    Feedback and Reviews

Prestige Senior Living at Mira Loma receives overwhelmingly positive reviews from family members and therapists who work with residents. Many reviews specifically mention the excellent quality of the food and the high level of attention from caregivers. One reviewer noted that her mother initially didn’t like how often people came to check on her but grew to love the constant attention and companionship.

Some people, however, haven’t been quite as satisfied with their experience at the Mira Loma location. One reviewer, although generally happy with the level of care, warned others to take note of the monthly fees. The reviewer claimed that Prestige Senior Living raises the fees multiple times per year, sometimes by as much as 20 percent.

Located just off Horizon Ridge Parkway, Truewood by Merrill is close to multiple golf courses on the outskirts of Henderson, making it perfect for golf lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. The community is also known for its amazing views of nearby Black Mountain and the rest of the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area. Getting out in nature is excellent for mental and physical health as we age, so we’re big fans of that!

    Pro Tip:

Pro Tip: Unsure what type of senior housing is right for you? Check out our guide to assisted living vs. independent living.

Its location makes the community a great choice for seniors who want to live a bit farther from the action of the city. The environment is quiet and peaceful, but there’s still easy access to shopping, restaurants, and medical centers. Truewood by Merrill also has excellent amenities, such as a library, salon, movie theater, landscaped courtyards, and concierge services. Like Prestige Senior Living at Mira Loma, Truewood is pet-friendly for people who want to bring their dogs or cats with them. It costs more than Prestige Senior Living, but Truewood by Merrill offers an excellent balance between luxury and affordable living.

    Types of Care

Truewood by Merrill is the only community on this list to offer independent housing. That makes it a great option for older adults who are independent but may want to transition to assisted living or memory care as they age. Regardless of the type of care you need, Truewood offers anytime dining and a calendar full of activities so you can do things your own way. That level of independence and freedom is great for older adults who don’t want to feel stuck or obligated to participate in a repetitive daily schedule.

    Feedback and Reviews

Truewood by Merrill in Henderson generally receives good reviews for its comfortable rooms and beautiful property. Several family members also praise Truewood for offering a smooth and stress-free move-in process and a simplified transition process between independent living, assisted living, and memory care. Multiple reviews, on the other hand, have said the food is not always the best quality and is often served cold. One reviewer compared Truewood’s dining options to hospital food, which really takes away from an otherwise luxurious experience.

  • 3. Green Valley Senior Care Home

Cozy Residential Home With an Emphasis on Memory Care

    STARTING PRICE

    $3,900 per month

    ADDRESS

2269 Alanhurst Drive, Henderson, NV 89052

    Speak to a SeniorLiving advisor:

    (855) 241-1699
    Green Valley Senior Care Home

Source Image: Green Valley Senior Care Home

    Highlights

    • Assisted living and memory care
    • Homey residential community
    • High staff-to-resident ratio
    • Family-style dining

    Overview

Green Valley Senior Care Home is a small, residential assisted living and memory care community located a few blocks west of the Desert Valley Golf Course. Green Valley is more expensive than Sunrise of Henderson and other large communities in this guide, but its starting prices are a little lower than BeeHive Homes, the only other residential community on our list. It makes sense, however, to pay more if you want to enjoy a home-away-from-home environment with a small number of residents and a high staff-to-resident ratio.

» Learn More: Assisted Living vs. Memory Care

Green Valley Senior Care Home is unique since it functions as an assisted living community but all the care is geared toward seniors experiencing some degree of cognitive decline. The friendly staff hosts a variety of daily activities and events, including exercise classes, arts and crafts, and barbecues. The property also features a highly secure backyard with ample seating and fruit trees. We appreciate the added security since people with memory loss are more prone to wandering. The small environment may not be the right choice for social butterflies or seniors who want access to more amenities, but it’s a great option for older adults who want to live in a residential home instead of a larger facility.

    Types of Care

The community offers assisted living and memory care. It makes sense that the small, residential Green Valley Senior Care Home doesn’t offer more nuanced types of care, such as short-term rehab or independent living, but that also means it may not be the best choice for everyone.

Since the staff is specifically trained to help people with various forms of dementia, it’s best for seniors who need daily assistance with physical and cognitive tasks. The cost is higher than other communities in Henderson, such as Truewood by Merrill and Prestige Senior Living, so you may need to consider your budget before applying to live at Green Valley.

Virtually every online review praises the community for the care and attention provided by staff, the delicious home-cooked meals, and the neat and the tidy environment. Many reviewers say the staff treats every resident like a member of the family, making the experience that much better for residents.

    • Daily physical and mental exercises
    • Small, residential community
    • ADA-approved bathrooms and showers

    Overview

BeeHive Homes of Henderson has two locations adjacent to each other on Greenway Road, just a short drive from downtown Henderson. The location provides a perfect balance between the peace and quiet of suburban living and the high-rolling nightlife of Henderson. The community offers regular excursions to nearby attractions such as the Emerald Island Casino, Clark County Museum, and Heritage Park. Staying social and enjoying local activities is an excellent way to prevent isolation and loneliness, so we love the opportunities BeeHive Homes provides. The property itself has two residential homes equipped with all the features required to keep seniors safe, including ADA-approved bathrooms.

» Learn About: Home Safety for Seniors

BeeHive Homes of Henderson ensures every resident gets ample attention and has a personalized plan catered to their needs. Staff is on-site 24/7 to assist with everything from getting dressed to medication management, which is pretty standard for assisted living communities. Plus, the mission at BeeHive Homes is to create a family environment in which no resident feels left out. That makes BeeHive Homes of Henderson a great option for older adults who feel overwhelmed in larger communities or may struggle to socialize without the help of others.

    Types of Care

As a small residential community, BeeHive Homes of Henderson offers assisted living, memory care, and respite care. The inclusion of respite care is a welcome addition for caregivers who need a break from the difficulties of taking care of a loved one. It also gives BeeHive Homes a leg up on other residential communities in Henderson, such as Green Valley Senior Care Home, which offers only assisted living and memory care.

    Feedback and Reviews

Reviews of BeeHive Homes of Henderson commend the community for its commitment to quality care. From community directors to individual caregivers, everyone at BeeHive Homes goes above and beyond to keep residents happy, comfortable, and well-groomed. The only negative feedback BeeHive Homes has received has involved the price. A few family members have commented that the price is quite high, while the property itself is not very luxurious.

    Highlights

    • Assisted living, memory care, and short-term stays
    • Award-winning assisted living care
    • Resort-style senior living
    • Pet-friendly community

    Overview

Sunrise of Henderson is located just steps from the Amador Vista Park (and dog park), and a few blocks from the DragonRidge golf course and country club. That gives seniors a few different ways to enjoy their time at Sunrise, stay active, and take in the picturesque surroundings. Like Truewood by Merrill and Prestige Senior Living, Sunrise of Henderson is a pet-friendly community; you can bring your small dog and have easy access to the nearby dog park. Sunrise of Henderson also has quick and easy access to the Green Valley Ranch Resort Spa and Casino, perfect for those who want to gamble or enjoy some pampering.

» Related Reading: Activities for Seniors

Sunrise of Henderson has a resort-style property and amenities, and the prices are more affordable than more intimate communities like BeeHive Homes of Henderson. Sunrise offers restaurant-style dining and a bistro where residents can enjoy a coffee or snack. We love it when communities offer a variety of dining options! The community also uses the latest tech to help keep residents safe and family members informed. It offers a family engagement app to communicate directly with staff, for example, and the Sunrise CareConnect electronic system coordinates personalized care plans. That makes Sunrise of Henderson a great choice for seniors who want to live every day like it’s a vacation while also receiving tailored care and assistance.

    Types of Care

Sunrise of Henderson offers assisted living, memory care, and short-term stays. The level of care is pretty standard for a large senior living community, but we like that short-term stays are an option for people who just need temporary help. Sunrise’s prices seem pretty reasonable, particularly with the amenities and activities included, but the base prices do not include all types of care. If you require help with more than two activities of daily living or any type of memory care, for example, you’ll pay a higher monthly fee.

How We Chose the Best Assisted Living in Henderson

Henderson has a very large number of seniors and retirees. About one in five Henderson residents is 65 years old or older. Consequently, there are more than a dozen quality assisted living communities in the area, but not every one meets our standards. To find the best assisted living in Henderson, we focused on several important factors.

  • Cost: The cost of assisted living in Henderson is quite low compared to the national average, making it an excellent choice for low-income seniors. We understand that many seniors in Henderson are willing to pay more for luxury accommodations, so we also found the best communities that account for varied budgets and interests.
  • Available care: Every community on our list offers at least one type of care in addition to assisted living (most often memory care). We believe the best communities allow seniors to age in place and have the expertise to manage changing age-related needs.
  • Reviews: We read hundreds of reviews to understand what people like and dislike about each community.
  • Amenities: Amenities and special perks can make or break residents’ experience. We focus on communities that offer amenities that improve the quality of life for seniors.
  • Location: There are many attractions in Henderson, and it can be convenient to live in a place a few blocks from your favorite point of interest. We tried to include communities throughout the city close to things like public parks, casinos, and museums.
  • Staff size: We highlighted assisted living communities that offer high staff-to-resident ratios, often with a maximum of eight residents per caregiver.

How to Find the Right Assisted Living Community for You

Finding the right assisted living community for you is no easy task. We’ve done a lot of research for you, but you’ll still need to think about your unique needs as you look for a community. Here are a few things to consider when comparing communities for yourself or a loved one.

  • Identify your needs: Your needs should be your top priority when choosing an assisted living facility. Each community is different, and some may not offer the type of care or assistance you require. Think about what you need and talk with your doctor about requirements you may have in the future so you can pick a community that can provide care for as long as you need it.
  • Review your budget: Assisted living in Henderson is pretty affordable when compared to the costs in Las Vegas or other large cities in the region. Still, look over your budget before you sign on the dotted line. While analyzing your budget, remember Medicare doesn’t cover assisted living in most cases and many seniors depend on Social Security benefits, retirement savings, and long-term care insurance to cover costs.
  • Read reviews: Always read reviews for the communities that interest you. A community’s website may make it look amazing, but reviews from family members and staff could tell a completely different story.
  • Visit communities: Try to visit communities in person before making a decision, so you can see what activities are offered, how the food looks, and how the staff interacts with residents. Be sure to ask residents and staff members plenty of questions while you’re there!
  • Check licensing and certifications: While researching a community, check that it has up-to-date licensing and certifications to operate in Nevada.
  • Trust your gut: Don’t be afraid to trust your gut! When two or more communities seem pretty similar, your intuition can often point you in the right direction.

What Is Living in Henderson Like for Seniors?

There’s a reason so many seniors call Henderson home. It’s a fun and exciting place to live, with plenty of attractions for nature lovers and city dwellers alike. Below is a quick look at what life is like for older adults in Henderson.

  • Climate: Henderson has very dry weather and lots of sunshine. Summers tend to be long and hot, while winters are short and mild. The summer heat can get pretty intense, but it is generally a great place for snowbirds who want to escape the colder temperatures of northern states and cities.
  • Health care: Henderson has a few large hospitals and dozens of smaller clinics that generally receive positive reviews for their quality of care. The city’s close proximity to Las Vegas gives seniors access to even more health-care options.
  • Cost of living: The cost of living in Henderson is nearly 10 percent higher than the national average, but it’s lower than the cost of living in nearby Las Vegas. Fortunately, the cost of assisted living is very low compared to the general cost of living in the city.
  • Walkability: Henderson is pretty spread out, so it could be quite time-consuming (and difficult in summer heat) to walk from one place to another. That said, Henderson is home to more than 80 miles of nature trails and walking paths.
  • Activities: Henderson has a lot of fun activities for seniors, including shopping, high-end restaurants, public parks, casinos, museums, resorts, water parks, and nature trails.
  • Safety: Henderson is generally considered a very safe place to live, especially compared to other cities in Nevada such as Las Vegas and Reno. The economy is thriving, and violent crime is relatively low. The city of Henderson encompasses a very large area, and some neighborhoods are safer than others.
  • Tax structure: Nevada does not levy a state income tax, inheritance tax, or estate tax, making it one of the best states for seniors who want to get the most out of their retirement savings and estate planning.

How Much Does Assisted Living Cost in Henderson, Nevada?

According to Genworth, the projected median cost of an assisted living community in Henderson is $3,988 per month for 2024. That’s roughly 23.3 percent lower than the national median of $4,917.3

Assisted living in Henderson is very affordable compared to other cities throughout Nevada and the rest of the country. As you can see from this list, the starting costs of assisted living vary from one community to the next. The type and level of care you require also affect how much you pay. Memory care, for example, tends to be far more expensive than assisted living. Fortunately, you can shop around and find communities with starting prices well below average for the city of Henderson.
